Josh is currently the Assistant Musical Director for Grease (UK Tour 2017) for David Ian productions.

Josh is a Conductor who trained with Daniele Rosina at the University of Birmingham. During his time at Birmingham, he studied and conducted works by Sibelius, Borodin, Copland, Elizabeth Lutyens and many more. Having researched this kind of repertoire extensively, and after being engaged in a number of musical productions, he gained a solid foundation for musically directing theatrical works. One of the highlights during his youth career was having the opportunity to sing in the Proms Youth Choir for the BBC First Night of the Proms 2013, conducted by Sakari Oramo, performing Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony. After gaining his undergraduate degree in Music, Josh was mentored by David Charles Abell and given the opportunity to assist the conductor with the Olivier Awards 2014 and BBC War Horse Prom. He now lives and works in London, primarily as a musical director for theatre. Being adept at using software such as Logic, Mainstage and Sibelius, along with doing his own keyboard programming, Josh has all the tools required by a modern-day musical director, arranger and composer.

"Musical director Josh Sood presides over a terrific five-piece band to lend Michael England’s scoring texture and variety." Mark Shenton, The Stage (Duncton Wood 2015)

"I stood in the orchestra pit to watch Josh conduct the second act. The way he galvanised his musicians was extraordinary; in chaotic circumstances, with the brass section watching via video monitor, he kept the complex score together, always with a smile on his face. Not only did he have the technical means to conduct such difficult music, but he did so with panache." David Charles Abell (GMTG Presents: The Phantom of the Opera 2014)

"Josh’s work on The Fix was exemplary by any standards. He was attentive to the details of the score and delivered an emotionally charged experience for the audience, which is happy making for any composer. It was clear that he required the highest standard of musicianship, diction, and storytelling from the company. He challenged them to push toward new personal bests, all the while holding them in the highest esteem...I’m looking forward to the next time he music directs one of my shows." Dana P. Rowe, (The Fix 2016)

"Sood has provided assured guidance and so the texture and glory of the harmonies and melodies shines through. His able band delivers finely tuned support." Stephen Collins, British Theatre (Duncton Wood 2015)

"Sood ensured that the rhythm and pulse of the score was appropriately energised and maintained across the evening. The small band of five played precisely and with flair, and revealed the many joys of Rowe’s exciting score. Dempsey’s lyrics are sharp and cynical, and Sood ensures they are given as much prominence as the melodies." Stephen Collins, Live Theatre UK (The Fix 2016)
